On Eagles Wings

"You have seen what I did....how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself".

Exodus 19:4

It seems strange that God would use this term to remind the children of Israel of His relationship to them in their trouble - until you understand some basic habits of the eagle.  Some say other birds carry their young between their feet so that birds  flying above may not snatch them; but the eagle will carry its young on its wing safely wherever it pleases.  Swift in flight having strong wings, the eagle flies higher than other birds. On the wings, the young eagle is covered, protected and sustained.

As the Israelites faced the uncertainty of their future and felt the anxiety of being in the wilderness, God reminded them of His special relationship to them. He challenged them to look back through their past circumstances and reflect on His actions and let His faithfulness confirm His present promise.  God said, " you have seen what I did", you have been a witness to my goodness and grace toward you.

Like the young eagle, the Israelites were in their nest while in Egypt. Though they suffered hardships, disappointments, despair and oppression, they were never out of the watchful, careful eye of God.  And, as the young eagle is carried out of the nest when it is time, so God carried them out of Egypt. Swiftly and safely He removed them from their place of hardship and limitation, distinguishing them from all other nations, having chosen them to be a special people to Himself.

My friend, the same is true for you.  Don't allow the cares and difficulties of daily living to distract you from the loving, faithful, caring protection of God over your life.  You can faithfully trust Him with your future because He has been in your past.  As you look back over your life, you'll soon realize it was the mercy of God that kept you.  You too can say, He has borne you on "eagles wings".  You have risen above situations that you cannot explain, received provision from sources you have not known and received blessings you have not deserved.  Your faithful and loving heavenly Father has done this by His own hand because He has chosen you for Himself. Thank Him.

                                                              Devotional Prayer

Gracious and loving Father, as you have done for the people of Israel, so You have done for me.  Thank you for fulfilling your promises and blessing my life in so many ways.  Fill my heart with gratitude so that my mouth will always praise You, in Jesus name I pray, amen.
